What are dental implants

Dental implants are a treatment option for nearly every patient who needs teeth replacement. Though there are other methods to replace lost teeth, dental implants are widely recognized as the optimal method of tooth replacement, due to the fact that they most closely look like the natural tooth/teeth which has been lost, and have a long lifespan when cared for properly.

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots made of titanium or a titanium alloy which are placed into the jaw bone to replace missing tooth roots to hold a replacement tooth (crown) or bridge. They function by being intimately connected with the gum tissues and underlying jaw bone through a biological process. Once healed, the implant provides a stable surface upon which the replacement tooth/teeth can rest upon. The reason it is able to intimately bond is because a titanium dental implant has a unique ability to attach with jaw and gum tissue. Thus, meaning your artificial tooth or teeth will seem quite natural when attached as the implant won’t move, shift, or become dislodged.

In addition, dental implants will protect the underlying bone. For when teeth are missing, the underlying bone can become weakened. Thus, dental implants will maintain the natural shape of your face and smile. With a dental implant, there is no need to hide your smile from the world.
